2024 Kentucky Derby week: Everything you need to know

The 2024 Kentucky Derby is an annual horse race commonly known as “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports” and also “The Run for the Roses,” thoroughbred racing will be held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. It is a tradition for the race to take place on the first Saturday in the month of May.

The first leg of the American Triple Crown has been scheduled from the first May 6 to June 10. The American Triple Crown has always started with the Kentucky Derby in 1969. Following the Kentucky Derby comes the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. Woodford Reserve is sponsoring the race. So the official event will be called the 2024 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve. The horses that will be a part of this race were qualified through points in the 2024 Road to the Kentucky Derby.

Even some major preps were completely canceled. Changing the date of the Kentucky Derby is a decision that has not been made since 1945 when the race was affected by World War II.

The spring meet for Belmont and Churchill Downs has been attended. Churchill Downs is allowed to attend the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby 2024 Festival. The Kentucky Oaks race will happen on Friday 3 May with the Kentucky Derby race following the day after. Possible entrants for the 2024 Kentucky Derby are Mo Donegal, who won the Belmont, and Nest, who came in second at the Belmont. Third place winner at the Belmont, Skippylongstocking, is also a possible entrant. Other possible entrants include Honor Golden Glider and Barber Road.
